This is a special art site as it is easily accessible and has a great variety of subjects,
from whales, stingray, kangaroo and ancestral spirit figures. This site inspired me in
2006 to devise a way of lighting the rock engraving sites of Sydney as I realised that
they were slowly fading and I wanted to preserve them in photographic form.
I use a small hand torch and I pass light over the engravings during a long camera
exposure of about 60 seconds.

The mood and colour of the snow gums changes distinctly with the seasons.
At the end of Autumn, the bark on the trees pulls back to reveal beautiful shades of
red, yellow and orange, replacing the pale greens and greys of the summer months.

Peter Solness and René Vogelzang have been selected as finalists in the 2011 NSW Parliamentary Plein Air Photographic Prize.

Peter & René's photographs featured in the Discovering Country series of group exhibitions which showcased the beauty and the rich Aboriginal culture in NSW national parks. The Discovering Country photograhs have exhibited at the Discovery Museum at the Rocks in Sydney, at the Tumut and Jindabyne visitor information centres and at the Gu Yuan Museum of Art in Zhuhai, China.

The free public exhibition of finalists will run from 4 August – 25 August 2011 in the Fountain Court at New South Wales Parliament House in Macquarie Street, Sydney

Peter was the first place getter and René third place in the 2010 NSW Parliamentary Plein Air Photographic Prize
